Organic Foods

The benefits of eating natural organic foods

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the health benefits of organic foods. They are harder to find and usually much more expensive than regular food products, but are they worth it?

The most obvious benefit that comes from eating organic natural foods is the fact that they commonly contain much less pesticide residue. Organic foods are considered to be safer to consume than other foods that utilize harsh chemicals, especially pesticides. The problem is that pesticides being used on non-organic foods are only deemed safe for a particular amount when used individually. Often, many different foods are packaged and shipped together, and these levels that are deemed safe don’t take into account the possibility of chemical and pesticide residues being transferred from one food to the next. This means that there is no way of telling if the pesticide levels on your food are safe to consume.

The reduced use of pesticides is also beneficial to the environment. This, and other eco-friendly organic farming practices, has indirect benefits to our health, as well. Many health food stores sell organic foods in bulk. Buying organic bulk foods further helps the environment by reducing packaging.

Perhaps one of the more disputed benefits of organic foods is whether they provide better nutrition than conventionally grown food. Although there have been studies that claim there is no difference in nutrient levels, many of these studies have been funded by large corporations and are agriculturally flawed. In fact, a recent investigation of these nutrition studies found that around 72 percent of them were invalid. Upon further research the study revealed that, on average, most organic foods do contain higher nutrient levels when compared to traditionally grown foods that utilize chemicals. In particular, many organically grown vegetables have been found to be higher in antioxidants, a key component of an effective anti aging diet.

Fortunately for consumers, there are more and more companies producing organic foods. There are a ton of great organic foods online that can be purchased and shipped to your home. This is not only a great way of getting your organic foods, but also ensures that your foods haven’t been shipped with other foods that may contain chemical or pesticide residue. Another great way to get these products is through local markets and farmers. Whether you shop online or at a farmers’ market, you are also likely to save money compared to the price of organic food products at the grocery store.
