Stay active during your retirement
You’re retired now, but you still want to work and stay active. Many people who have retired find themselves right back out on the job market. There are several reasons for this, including income, boredom and habit. There are many full time and part time seniors jobs. Depending on your health, fitness, ambition and needs, the possibilities are numerous. Being in retirement doesn’t mean you have to park yourself in that rocking chair just yet.
Part time jobs for seniors:
- Sell on eBay: Like most people, you probably have a variety of things that may be just junk to you, but that other people may be interested in buying. Setting up an eBay account is easy and quick.
- Delivery: No, you’re not a kid anymore, but now you have a car! Newspapers, periodicals, pizzas – they all need to be delivered. Depending on your fitness level, this may be for you. Remember, you will want to stay active.
- Writing: If you have ever fancied yourself a writer, there are so many opportunities for freelance writers today. By simply doing a search on your computer, you may find your perfect part time job
- Customer Service: Many companies now offer work-at-home positions in customer service. This is an ideal part time job for seniors. You work on contract, set your own hours and work from home.
Full time jobs for seniors:
- Transportation: Many employers are looking for experienced drivers in the field of transportation. This can be driving taxis, busses, trucks or vans. If it has wheels, and you can drive it, it may be worth checking into.
- Tutoring: Share your knowledge and experience with others and gain not only pay, but satisfaction that you have helped someone else.
- Food and Hospitality: This is a great way for you to stay active in retirement. Of course, you can always go part-time with this too.
- Retail: Again, even if part-time, this job would help keep you active. In retail, you would get some exercise, but it’s not too taxing on the body.
There are many other avenues to explore. Retirement jobs can be just what you want them to be. If you just need a little extra income from time to time, look into seasonal or summer retirement jobs. If you have accounting knowledge you could pick up a little work at tax time. If you have a green thumb you might help out in a garden center in the summer. Don’t forget the busiest season of all – every mall needs gift wrappers and Santa’s helpers come Christmas.
If you don’t need the cash and just want to stay busy and useful, consider volunteering. This can be the best way to make a difference in your community, while keeping yourself physically, mentally and emotionally fit.
