Board Games

Classic or online, games are fun for all

Board games are immensely popular all over the United States, despite the rise of video games. New board games are added to the shelves of toy stores and hobby shops all the time. Some people prefer the classic board games; the titles they knew while growing up. Other people find that playing online board games is convenient and adds a fun new twist to their favorite pastime. There are even places to find discount board games, so you can indulge your favorite hobby without making major purchases every time.

Classic Board Games

Most people are familiar with the classic board games of America. Risk, Monopoly, Life and Sorry are time-tested and well-known board games that almost everyone is familiar with. Many newer board games are take-offs of these classic board games that meld movie titles or television characters onto the classic board game body – for example, The Simpsons Life or Lord of the Rings Risk.

Online Board Games

Websites have also gotten some attention by offering online board games. These versions are faithful to the classic board games, but offer the convenience of a ready partner (either a human player or the computer) with the added benefit of no cleanup, lost rules or lost pieces. Some online board games include classics like Battleship and Risk while others offer versions of newer board games such as The Settlers of Catan.

Board Game Prices

Finding the right board game can be a game in itself. Most of the board games put out by mainstream companies are very expensive. The Internet, then, is the best resource to find discount board games. Websites such as Fair Play Games and Discount Games offer many varieties of board games for less than retail stores. Another excellent resource for finding discount board games is eBay, Craigslist and other auction, bidding or garage-sale websites.

Don’t completely write-off retail stores, though; periodical sales on board games as well as closeouts, overstocks and damaged board games can result in regularly priced games becoming discount board games. Be sure to comb the aisles, look on end-caps and keep an eye out for tags that are meant to stand out (such as red or yellow sale tags) to find the best bargains.
